CustoPack is a free application that customizes Windows Themes and you can change the look and appearance of your OS with simplicity. Every once in a while, giving a new appearance to Windows is always fun, CustoPack helps you to change the look and feel of Windows using simple customizing options. CustoPack tool makes the customization easy and simple. This tool is free of cost, and works with all standard Windows platform such as Windows XP, Vista and 7. Using this tool, you can modify the look of your icons, backgrounds, themes and many more. Installation:Installing this file is similar to installing any Windows files. Just double click on the executable file, which is CustoPacks-1.0.0.40.exe and you are ready to go. The first window will be like this:
After installing this file, you will notice that it takes about 69MB of hard disk space. After completion of the installation process, it will run (see checkbox at the end of the installation process) a window will pop-up on the screen.
If you look carefully at the bottom left corner of the above screenshot, you will notice that the operating system, and which service pack is used (I used Windows XP Service Pack 3). Features:In case of "Choose a CustoPack", you will find several options provided for you. If you have already downloaded some CustoPacks then you can choose the first option, and if you haven't downloaded any pack then you will be shown a default windows theme.
If you have installed some kind of CustoPacks, you can modify its attributes such as its visual style, background image, Windows themes and with advanced CustoPacks you can completely change the look of the CustoPack. The third option is to download a new CustoPacks, which I believe is self explanatory. The second section is "Create a CustoPack" with which you can create a new CustoPack, customize it and see what is the progress of the creation of the new CustoPack. If you click on the "Create a new CustoPack" option, you will be shown a window, in which you should give it a unique name, author name, email address, and most important for which Windows operating system you are designing this CustoPack.
After clicking on the "Create the project" you will see a window with all the important options with which you can do many things, and all are self explanatory, which means that you won't have any kind of problem in customizing. The last section is "Settings and configuration", there are three sections System Configurations, CustoPacks Tools option and Update CustoPack Tools respectively. FeedTurtle is a free software you can use to manage RSS feeds. The program allows you to read all RSS feeds from your personal computer by just adding your RSS address. The program runs on Java and requires JDK 1.6 or higher to run. Features
How to manage RSS Feeds with FeedTurtle?FeedTurtle requires no installation. Depending on your operating system, you may have to run the program from the command line. Open cmd.exe, navigate to the program's directory and enter this command "java –jar FeedTurtle5.2.jar" -the file name might change depending on the version you are using. The user interface is much more like what you are used to but the look and feel offers a deserved break from the monotony of the Windows look and feel. By default, the program auto hides the menu bar. You can disable this by unchecking the option on the Settings menu. The program requires constant internet access and if you sit behind a proxy, enter configuration details by selecting Proxy server on the Rss menu.
FeedTurtle allows users to save and load program settings in XML format by selecting the respective options on the File menu. The program contains tabs for movies, TV and games. The tabs can be easily displayed or hidden by unchecking the show option on their respective menus. To add RSS feeds, enter a valid address in the textbox provided and click the RSS button. To add movies, click on the Add movies button and enter a valid name. Once movies with the matching name are located, you can select the movie you want to add from the list. You can enter an RSS feed address for the movie in the text field provided or enter a path for the media player you wish to use to play the movie.
To add a TV series, click on the TV series tab. Click the add new series button to produce a list of a series to select from. You can add series by checking the respective checkboxes and clicking the Add selected series button. In case you find it hard to locate your favourite TV series, use the Add series by name button to search the list. Once the series are added, double click on any of them to view current information about them. You can view subtitles through the subtitle manager or access the TV guide by clicking on the respective buttons. At the bottom of the series information, you can choose to download the torrent file to your computer or paste the torrent link onto your system clipboard. To access the browser, click the browser icon at the top right.
As a FeedTurtle user, you have the privilege of selecting from about 15 inbuilt themes. SecureBin is a free encryption software with tools and techniques to keep your files and folders intact and secure. Nowadays, intrusion is a common phenomenon, and security is very vulnerable. Inadvertently, many of us share our folders and drive with other computers, which is by no means safe. Security is breached very easily, but to add an extra security to your personal data you can use Secure Bin. Encryption is a very tedious task as you need to encrypt each and every file or folder manually. Ensuring security and accessing the file or folder is very easy using this tool. There is no installation process required for this tool. Just extract the zip folder and start using the software (you need to know which file to execute). The file that is required to run this application is Secure Bin (Shield Icon). For the first time, if you double click on the Secure Bin icon, you will be shown a very important window which is shown below-
As you can see from the above screenshot, you need to provide username, password and confirm it. The length of the password must be between 8 to 16 characters. After providing all the necessary information, the application will restart to apply the settings. After the restart, you need to again provide the username and password, but on a different window.
After the completion of the above process, it is time to add file or folder in the Secure Bin. Unfortunately, this tool lacks the drag and drop facility but they make up for this deficiency with their amazing security and user interface. You can also check out files and folder locker software reviewed by us. If you click on the "Add Folder" a window will pop-up on the screen in which you need to provide the folder and password. Master encryption can also be used, but you should avoid it as what will be the use of added security then.
Once the target folder and the password are set the folder security will be ensured by the Secure Bin.
After finishing of this process the folder which is secured by the Secure Bin is shown on the GUI.
To add files follow the same steps like above. From the "Settings" you can easily change the username and password.
To unlock the folder or file, go to the Secure Bin application where you will find the folder or file which is secured by this application. Double click on that particular folder or file. Following this, a window will pop-up where you need to show the folder or file path, and provide a password, if you provide all the information correctly then Secure Bin will open it.
Conclusion:The user interface and usability is very easy and simple unlike the encryption method. Any beginners who want to secure their folder or files can use this encryption software. There are few issues which I encountered during using this software, it crashes very often, which is very annoying as each time you need to provide username and password to use it. Windows Improver combines three different system utilities into one application, system maintenance, performance boosting and disk junk removal. Each one of these three system improvement avenues has several different tools. Tools which are not native to Windows Improver but they are rather just links to Windows tools who’s existence many people are not even aware of and those who start using Windows Improver will be surprised when they find out how much they can improve Windows performance without installing any kind of third party utilities.
Every button that you see above is a shortcut to a built-in Windows utility. In a sense Windows Improver would be a control center type of app which holds shortcuts to all of the more important Windows tools for PC tune up. Advantages to using Windows ImproverVarious utilities that exist out there are very good at what they do, but they have a drawback in the fact that they themselves cause PC clutter to increase, to some small extent at least. There has been cases where people have overdid it with various cleaners, always installing new ones thinking that they will help increase PC performance. Windows cleaning utilities, which come with the system can eliminate a lot of problems that are causing system slow downs. From the image above, you can see that there are a lot of different places where Disk cleanup looks for files to be cleansed, some of the same places that third party cleaners wouldn’t look at. For other things like disk defragmentation, startup programs editing you also do not need to install any additional apps, because Windows has them all. If you are not sure about what exactly Windows hides under the hood, then grab yourself a copy of Windows Improver and see what kind of tools are being offered there, you might not find everything that’s needed for successful PC tune up, but there’s plenty of tools for basic system cleanup. FoxyUtils is a free utility to Merge, Spilt, Unlock & Protect PDF files. Nowadays, PDF is used by many organizations and software such as Adobe Reader, Foxit Reader and Sumatra PDF are very common. FoxyUtils provides services for merging, splitting, protecting and unlocking of PDF. There are various propriety applications available in the market, which provide these services, but you need to pay for those services. All these service are free of cost with FoxyUtils. Below we are going to discuss about the four free services which they provide. Features of FoxyUtils for editing and modifying PDF files:
1) Merge PDF: Using this service you can merge various PDF documents into a single PDF document. To achieve this, the first step you need to do is to select multiple PDF documents by clicking on the Browse button. If you have selected all the necessary PDF's that needs to be joined to create a single PDF document, then click on the Merge PDF button. The Merge PDF button will firstly upload all the PDF's, and then it will create a single PDF document. If it is successful, you will be prompted to download that particular PDF file. The maximum size of the file must be 50MB only, and the file is not retained by default. To retain the merged file you need to click on the check box where retaining option is given.
2) Split PDF: Using this feature you can split the PDF files. The working of this service is little bit different from Merge PDF, because here you need to specify the start and end page number. The uploading mechanism is same as the Merge PDF. Here you can also retain files, and the size of the file must be under 50MB. While retaining the modified PDF, you can retain it for maximum of 1 hour, after that the file will be deleted.
3) Unlock PDF: By Using this service, you can unlock few PDF's only. I tried this service by providing a password protected PDF file, which it was not able to unlock. This service can be helpful when software is unable to open a simple PDF file. If the PDF is password protected, then you can open it by providing the password. Providing password is optional, but if both the methods fail, then it can’t be done and a failure message is shown.
4) Protect PDF: by using this service you can lock any given PDF files. The kind of protection you want to implement depends on your choice. The uploading method is same as all the other three bit, in this case, you need to specify the password and the conditions with it. Few of the conditions are to permit modifications, permit printing, permit filling of the form fields, and allowing copy or extraction of text or graphics. All the other conditions, such as file size and retaining of the file are same as above.
Conclusion:The user interface is simple and easy to use. Considering the fact that all the services provided by the FoxyUtils are free it is very commendable.
