MyOtherDrive is a great platform to create online backups and share content online with friends. Using MyOtherDrive to share and backup data

The above snapshot shows the interface when you login with your credentials after signing up with MyOtherDrive. The 'Profile' tab displays all your basic account information including the space used in your account, your email with which you are registered and recent activity.

Clicking on the 'Files' tab lets you avail the major features of your account:

As you can see in the above snapshot, lots of functions can be performed such as download, upload, backup, sharing and grab file. By default, there are three folders already present: 'My Documents', 'My Music' and 'My Pictures'. You can add files to any of these folders or create a new folder by clicking on 'create new' next to 'more actions'.

To perform any action such as upload, download etc. you need to click on the particular action listed in 'more actions'. The following window is launched:

Whatever, action you choose the above window is launched. To upload a file, all you need to do is click on the particular icon on the toolbar.

The next step is specify the files or folders which need to be uploaded and the destination. Once you are done, you need to hit 'Start'. We uploaded a file named 'CAT.docx'. The snapshot below shows the interface after we uploaded the file:

Similarly, you can even download files and also create backups. Any action is completed in just a few mouse clicks.

Create Hotkeys And Remap Keys Using AutoHotkey

AutoHotkey is basically a free software to create hotkeys and remap keys and buttons on your keyboard, mouse and Joystick. This free keyboard remapping software is small in size and works from the system tray itself. This free multi-functional software basically comes with a capability to automate anything by sending the mouse clicks and keyboard strokes. In addition, this free tool even allows you to write the keyboard macro or mouse macro using hands, or you may also use the built-in macro recorder.

The good part is that this free keyboard remapping software comes with a help option, that appears when you right-click the system tray icon of this tool. This help option opens up a help window which includes almost everything about this tool. So if you are a novice user or beginner, then I would suggest you to go through the help window first, before using the software.   • The names for numbers and alphabets are same as single digits and alphabets. For instance, a, b, c, 1, 2, 3, etc.
  • To know the names of other keys on the keyboard you must visit the key list within the Help window.

Now, in order to make the keyboard function like default without any re-mappings, you need to right-click the system tray icon of AutoHotkey and choose Edit this script option in order to open the AutoHotkey notepad wherein you have added the lines for remapping. So simply backspace and delete all lines that you have added and save it. Now, come back to the AutoHotkey system tray icon and right-click it to choose Reload This script option, that's it. You may also try some other such kind of software like KeyTweak and MapKeyboard for remapping keys on keyboard.

Free Cloud Based Project Management System: Collabtive

Collabtive is an open source groupware application which teams can use in order to work on projects. Official definition of groupware would be software which can help groups of people with common interests to work on various different projects, exchange ideas, make decisions, contribute with new findings and information, anything you can think of groupware software can do.

Another far more easier way to describe groupware software would be the following two words, project management, it’s basically the same thing. The principles are the same, people working together on projects. Image above is the default interface of the Collabtive project management system where you can see some of the useful features that you get with it. Desktop is the default location where you have overview of currently active projects, tasks that you need to do and also a calendar with your responsibilities marked on it.

To start a project inside Collabtive groupware system, while you’re in the Desktop mode click on the Add project button, it can be seen above just below the active project list. Having the ability to run several different projects at once is a great thing, because it allows you to manage and control several different teams, working on several different projects, which is not that uncommon to see in large companies.

After the project is created, you will see what you see on the screen above. In the red rectangle is a list of different tools which you can use in order to control your project. These tools are:

  • Milestones
  • Tasklists

  • Time Tracker

Menu buttons are grayed out, perhaps a bit too much grayed out, which might confuse some people into thinking that they are not available. On the right upper corner there is a very useful status bar where you have a nice graphical representation of the projects completion in percentages.

The most important part of any project would be tasks, on the image above we can see a task added to the Tasklist. For each task it’s possible to add users and also assign the number of days in which you want the task completed. Before you can assign users they have to be added, which is done in the Users tab from the menu above.

Next to these two things, there’s of course the rest of the very useful features that groupware applications like these have, the ability to add files, exchange messages and time tracking which can help out when it comes to completion of the project.

Collabtive is a very slick and easy to use project management software, which you can install on your companies server, or somewhere online, and have people from around the world working on projects important for you. Yammer is a Free Enterprise Social Networking site for your company. It's a Private Social Network to communicate with colleagues of your organization.

Yammer lets you share files, share photos, share status messages, post polls, post links, send direct messages to selected colleagues, chat like instant messenger, and much more.

Yammer is available as a web application, desktop application, iOS application, Android application, and Blackberry application. So, basically the employees can stay connected virtually on any platform.

Yammer was developed in 2008 and brought by Microsoft in 2012. By the end of 2010 it was used by more than 3 million users, 80,000 companies; including 80% of the Fortune 500 (source).

I’m currently using Yammer along with my colleagues and it’s as interesting as Facebook. Other Enterprise Social Networking site options available include Lumoflow: Enterprise Social Network or you can even Setup Social Networking Website.

How To Use Yammer:

Yammer is just like any other Social Networking site. Easy and user friendly to use when you have an internet connection.

When you open the Yammer official webpage, you can see a Sign Up option as shown in above screenshot. You have to enter your official company email address or else it doesn't work. You cannot use this with Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook.com email addresses, etc. You need to have email address that belongs to your company; like some-email-address@ilovefreesoftware.com.

If someone has already created a network for your company then you can just join them; else you have to create the network. A confirmation mail will be sent to your official email. Get started by inviting your company members with their official company email id's.

Status Feed:

The feed page opens first when you login to your account. This page shows the updates, new posts and files posted.

  • Post updates on what you are working. Your network members can Reply to this, Like it, Share it, Add topics and Bookmark it.
  • Add a Doc/Image allows you to post documents or images to share with your colleagues. You have the option to Follow the comments on any post or Share it or Download it also.
  • Post a Poll to know what your colleagues prefer. In this you can post a topic and ask for voting to know other’s views.
  • Praise Someone lets you praise someone for their hard or smart work. This post shows a nice thumbs up symbol to praise someone for what they did.
  • Ask a Question lets you query about some information and know the answers from your colleagues. In that you can add files or documents also.
  • Post an Event can be posted for something you are planning. You can input the date, time and duration also. You can post the location of the event also.

Profile

You can simply navigate to profile by clicking on the name of the employee. Profile appears here with your contact information and other personal information. You can create or join groups and you can “follow” your network members. You can see the threads you have participated and the contact details are available as vcard.

Messages:

There is a separate chat interface available to chat with your colleagues privately or have a group conversation by adding other members. This chat interface shows online members with a green dot. If you have a very big network of employees you can just type their name in the search bar as shown in below screenshot. So, if you are using Yammer, you don’t need to setup a separate LAN instant messenger.

Navigation pane:

Navigation pane is available at the top right. You have options for Inviting people, search People on your network and browse through files.

  • Invite lets you invite people who are not in your network and have a email id of your company.
  • People is a directory where you can search for people on your network. There’s an alphabetical order also through which you can search your colleagues details easily.
  • Files option shows the files which are posted on your network or you can post them from here also. You can browse through documents, pages, images, videos, and official files on your network.

Desktop App: Yammer’s desktop App is just like a messenger. A small icon appears on your task bar. In this app you can directly look at the updates and private messages. By selecting the private messages option you can send private messages to your colleagues.
