Picture information extractor, is a free piece of software which is a picture browser and viewer on your computer. This photo software can also be used to edit the file name of your photo and viewing the metadata of the picture.

Picture information extractor has a very good interface. It is really easy to use and navigate. Tools like importing or find your photos are easy to find. In a screenshot below you can see the two ways to find your photos. The two areas in black are where you can find your pictures.

Once you have clicked a photo you will be able to see the metadata on that photo. In the screenshot below you will be able to see the metadata of an example photo.

Unfortunately you cannot change metadata with the free version of this software, to be able to change the metadata you would need to purchase the full version of the software.

Pictures

Picture information extractor provides the best experiences when you're viewing photos. When you double-click a photo it will take you into full screen mode, this will allow you to see the picture in full. Once you are in the full screen mode and viewing your picture you will be able to see there is information about the picture in the top left of the screen. The data you get on your picture is the file name, a star rating, the date the picture was taken, the time the picture was taken, the shutter, the aperture, flash, ISO, the date and time of when the picture had been modified and the file size of the photo. I have provided a screenshot below that shows this.

There is also an option of how you view the photos inside of the software. You can choose to list the pictures, list the pictures by file details, have a metadata list of the pictures and you can view the pictures by the thumbnails of the pictures. In the screenshots below you will be able to see the different ways you can view the pictures.

Uses

Picture information extractor is a brilliant piece of software for photographers or anyone who wants to easily be able to view their pictures or to rename their pictures. For photographers the paid version would be a lot better because then you would have the ability to be able to edit the metadata on the pictures.

OmmWriter is a free writing software. This free writing software aims to block outside noise so that you can concentrate on writing. It plays calm sounds to you while you are typing and while the program is running.

Sounds

While you are writing you get options for the sound that is being played to you. There are three different options for sound, these options are one, two and three. However you also get the option to mute the music. You get these options for sounds to be played to you in the back ground while you are writing as seen below.

You also have an option to have sounds playing to you as you type. As you can see below you have the three options for the different sounds and the mute option.

This seems to be a very unique feature for this free writing software. This software is aiming to keep you calm and concentrated while you are writing.

Background

There are three different backgrounds that you can choose from. This is a very nice option as the different backgrounds can help you to be able to read the text more clearly. The backgrounds that are available are a white background with trees, a plain white background and a plain grey background. As you can see below there is a screenshot of the white background with trees.

This is a very nice feature to have in free writing software. Features like these have also been put into e-readers because of how they help users be able to read the screen. It also helps most people to concentrate more because plain white screens can bore some people.

Writing

When you are writing you get a few options to change the text size and the style of the text. The options you get for the style of text are an Arial style font, bold, a fancy font and a normal style. As you can see below I have included a screenshot of the interface for changing the style of text.

There are also four options for the size of your text, these are 00, +1, +2 and +3. Below is a screenshot of the different text sizes.

I think these are really nice features to have in any free writing software.

OmmWriter has a really nice and easy to use interface. As you can see in the other screenshots at the bottom of the page you can see a word counter. I really like this because in most free writing software a word counter would normally be classed as a tool that you would have to look for in a menu. The interface at the side also automatically hides when you start writing, which is really nice because it helps you to keep concentrating and takes away any distractions. Of course the interface is easy to get back up, all you have to do is move your mouse, and the interface fades back in.

Overall

OmmWriter is a really unique piece of software. It is a main competitor in the free writing software market. Its option to use sound as a way to keep users concentrated is a very good idea.

Color Code Folders for Easy Distinction with Folder Colorizer

Folder Colorizer is a free software to color code folders in a way to easily differentiate them from other folders. If you've got a number of folders with names that are similar, or that begin with the same letter(s), finding and picking an individual folder can be somewhat difficult. What if there was an easy way to differentiate your folders? There is Folder Colorizer.

Quick, Easy, and Small Download and Install

I like servers that are fast for when I'm downloading programs. The Softorino distribution servers are extremely fast; this is mostly because Softorino doesn't host their own downloads. Well known sites like tucows, Cnet, and Brothersoft do. This also means you can trust that the download is what you think it is, and that you're not going to get any nasty surprises from it.

I clicked the download link and selected my download location for the install package and Firefox instantly notified me that it was finished downloading the package and was scanning it for viruses. The download is small, at about 1.3 megabytes, but I've seen other servers that would take at least a few minutes to download it.

The installation was quick and easy. Softorino doesn't put any extra 'doodads' into their installation packages. No toolbars. No changes to the default browser. Not even a change to the homepage. Just choose the installation destination and you're off and running. Softorino Folder Colorizer is what's known as a Terminate and Stay Resident type program. This means there's nothing active for you to see when you double click the program icon or executable. That's not too bad, but it doesn't even show up in the Processes window of Windows Task Manager. This I didn't like, because malicious software like Trojans and rootkits do this. They don't show up as a running process, so they can't be shut down by normal means.

Folder Colorizer? What's That?

Folder colorization is changing the color of the folder icons of your folders in Windows Explorer. This makes it easier for you to identify specific folders. As an example, in the screenshot above here, I've changed the colors of some of the folders I need more often than the others on my hard drive. My Docs folder icon is now green, my Movies folder icon is red, I've changed the color of my Downloads folder icon to purple, and my Music folder is a light blue in color. Once I learn what colors I assigned to what folders, I'll be able to identify those folders at a glance.

Like I said, Folder Colorizer is a Terminate and Stay Resident program, so, how do you use it? It adds itself to the Windows Explorer Right Click Menu as can be seen in the screenshot. Move your mouse over Colorize! and the color selection menu pops up. If you don't see the color you want for that folder, you can select a custom color from the color selector wheel.

At first, I thought this was going to be a pretty useless utility. But it's beginning to grow on me and I'm starting to like it. I may just keep it for awhile.
