Control Android Music Player with Hand Gestures: Sensor

Sensor Music Player is a free music player app for Android that lets you control music by using hand gestures. The awesome feature about this application is the ability to control the music play back without touching the phone itself. You can skip to the next song on the track list, pause them, and resume playback by just waving your hand over your phone.

Yea, it also does all the normal stuff that are required of a good music player. Its has a simple interface, its light weight, does not use up too much resources. And, hey, you can wave at it to change song! How cool is that?

(BTW – if you hear music on PC, then there is a way to control music play on PC with hand gestures).

Modes for Different Hand Gestures:

The phone supports three modes: Wave over, pocket, hammer. There are different hand gestures associates with each mode to perform the actions on the music player. Each of these modes are aptly described by the screen shot below.

Wave over:

When this mode is selected, you can perform different actions by just waving your hand around proximity sensor (This sensor is located over the upper bezel of the screen):

Skip Song: Wave your hand over the proximity sensor to skip song.
Pause Song: Keep your hand above the sensor till the song gets paused
Resume Song: Keep our hand over the sensor till the song resumes playing

Out of all the three modes, this is my favorite one to control music player.

Hammer:

Hammer mode is pretty straight forward. After selecting this mode, just keep phone on a surface and hammer the surface to change the song with your hand. Be-careful while using this mode so that you don’t end up accidentally hammering the phone; you won’t enjoy that.

Pocket:

For this mode just select the mode from the options and turnoff your phone’s screen and keep it in your pocket and tap on the phone to skip the songs. This is a good mode when you are running or in a gym, and have phone in your pocket. Just tag the phone, and song will be changed.

Note: If you are not in the mood to use the above features and just want to use the app like a normal music player, then you can disable the above sensor features.

Features:

Notification Bar controls: The app has all the basic controls on the notification bar, in a very simple layout, and even shows the album arts . So you don’t have to open up the app just to do the basic stuff. This feature works in ICS (Android 4.0) and above.

Easy to use and simple widget, so that you can control the player from the home screen. It even shows which sensor is activated.

Smart search bar, just start tying the name of the song, artist, album etc to get to it.

How To Setup LAN Network For PC Games to Play Multi-Player Games

This is a simple article on how to setup LAN network (Local Area Network) for playing multiplayer games. This article covers for both Wireless and Wired computers.

In this gaming world, almost every game offers a multiplayer option. Avid gamers always play on the net with all advanced hardware and software; and I believe they know everything about multiplayer games.

But there are PC game fans, who like to play with their friends; with their simple laptops or desktops. This article is for those who want to play multiplayer games with the equipment they already have. Only condition is that, all your friends should be located near the router; to get the wireless signal. Once you are done with this setup, you can play all the multi-player games with your friends in your LAN. Some popular games you might want to try are: BMW Racing Game, Need for Speed, and Need for Madness.

Gear Up! It's Showtime:

When all your laptops or desktops are good to go, the first and foremost step is to check whether the game is running fine or not. If it's running fine then lets get started.

Wireless Computers:

Wireless computers have two ways of connecting to their friends in multiplayer games.

LAN Network: This works if you and your friends are connected to the same router. Then the steps to be followed are

All of you and your friends should connect to the same network (coming from same router).
Then you can start the game.
One of you choose the multiplayer option to become the host.
In that choose the local network or LAN play option; but not the internet option.
Then this person must host the game.
After all the game setup is done, ask others to choose multiplayer option.
Normally the name with which the host has setup the game will appear.
If anyone has problem, then refresh to view the host game.
Go out of the game where you can see a security notification as shown in below screenshot.
Click “Allow Access” or “Unblock” to join the game.

Then you can play the game with your friends.

Ad hoc Network: This is a little complicated process.

First click on the wireless symbol in your taskbar or go to control panel and click on for "Network and sharing center".

Choose "Set up a new connection or network".

Scroll down to choose "Set up a wireless ad hoc".

Provide the details as required and mostly choose WPA2 (It is for your security purpose).

Enter a strong security key and tick mark the "Save this network" option (to avoid disappointment during gameplay).
Click Next till the end and you are done.
Ask others also to choose the network that you have setup just now; as it will appear in the wireless networks.
Open your game and choose multiplayer and follow the steps that are given in LAN Network above.

Wired Computers:

In wired computers the steps are pretty same like LAN Network; mentioned in wireless devices. Only change is that all of you and your friends will be connected to same router through a LAN cable.

Balabolka: Free Text To Speech Converter

Balabolka is a free Text To Speech (TTS) software that can convert most text files to speech. Then you can listen to text by opening the file in Balabolka. It supports PDF, HTML, FB2, TXT, AZW, DOC, DOCX, RTF, MOBI, ODT, EPUB, PRC, LIT, CHM, etc. Another interesting part of the application is the ability to save the whole document as an audio file. Balabolka supports saving to some of the popular formats like: OGG, WAV, WMA, MP3, etc.

In my view, this application is one of the best free Text to Speech converter that I have seen yet. If you have any other recommendations then please put them in the comments below. It has great amount of configurability and excellent selection of features. Anyway the name sound’s strange right? (It did to me), actually it is Russian for "Chatterer".

There are lot of customizations with the type of audio output, it allows you to change voice parameters like: rate, pitch, etc. Also there are different voice characters available, you can select anyone of them. It will also automatically detect any Text to Speech voices that you have installed on your system. The application uses Microsoft's speech API to convert text to speech. So the sound quality and output are amazing.

The downloaded file will be zipped, so extract the installer and run it. After installation double click on the icon to start the application or start it form the start menu; the application will open up as shown in the above screen shot.

Also you will be able to see a notification icon in the system tray as below. Right clicking on it, will bring up a menu so that you can quickly access its features without opening up the application. The best use of this option is reading a selected part of a text or reading from the clipboard without opening up the application.

Features of Balabolka Text to Speech converter:

It supports huge list of input and output formats, as explained in the introduction. This in itself makes the application quite impressive; but wait there is more.
We can use the application to produce audio with text embedded like a lyric file in the output audio. So, the person can see the text, while the audio plays in the background. To do so navigate to OPTIONS > AUDIO FILES go to LRC tab and checking the Create LRC file. The output audio file will be accompanied with is .LRC file with the same name as the output file. To see the text file while playing the audio make sure that you put both of the files in the same folder.

And you can select different inbuilt Text to Speech voices in this application. Any Text to Speech voice installed on the computer whether paid or free will show up here in the drop down menu. You can customize the application’s look and feel, by changing the skins, fonts, and colors. The application comes with five skins by default excluding the default one. You can add more skins by downloading this skin pack which of course is free by clicking here. This skin pack contains 61 more skins.
You can set timer, so that the application stops after the set amount of time. This feature is particularly useful, when you are going to bed and want to listen to a book etc. After the time is gone off you can set it so that, its stops playback, shutdown, hibernates, exit program, etc.

There are lot of functionality that is located in the TOOL menu, most of these are really useful. So, I have described each one of them in brief. To access these options open up TOOLS menu in the application and select the one, you would like to use.

File Splitter: Split large text files into smaller files. The splitting can be achieved with any of the four criteria:
- Output target file size.
- Specific keyword in the file.
- Two empty lines in succession.
- Lines where all the letters are capital.
Batch convert text to speech: Ability to convert a selected batch of files to audio with a single click. This options makes bulk conversions bearable.

Improve Firefox, Chrome, Thunderbird and Skype Speed with SpeedyFox

SpeedyFox is a free portable utility, which you can use in order to optimize and speed up Mozilla’s Firefox and Thunderbird, as well as Google Chrome and Skype. These days using all of the previously mentioned applications on older computers doesn’t exactly work like a charm, because they are becoming more resource hungry. With SpeedyFox you can make things work a little faster, at least to some extent.

SpeedyFox isn’t a very large application, it’s less than a megabyte in size, and the interface of it, which can be seen on the image above, it doesn’t have a lot of options, which is no surprise because the way that SpeedyFox optimizes and speeds up previously mentioned applications doesn’t require a lot of menus and buttons, one’s more than enough, and that’s exactly what you get. Let’s do a recap, supported applications whose performance can be improved by SpeedyFox are:

Mozilla Firefox
Thunderbird
Google Chrome and
Skype

On the image above we can see that only two browsers are listed, that’s because these two are the only ones which are installed on our system. All the others were not found on the system and they are not on the list of applications which can be optimized.

How to optimize Firefox, Chrome, Thunderbird and Skype with SpeedyFox

You can start by opening up SpeedyFox. It’s a portable application, there’s no need for installation, just download it, run and you should see the main application window, the one on the image above. You can use SpeedyFox on Windows and Mac, it’s cross platform, which is a big plus, but does it really improve performance of all of the applications that is says it does? We tested it with Google Chrome and Firefox and what we tested were startup times from starting the application to seeing it fully loaded and ready for use. Before optimization was applied, these were the results:

Google Chrome - 14 seconds Firefox - 8 seconds

Since we use Google Chrome more heavily and it has more plugins installed, it loads a bit slower for us, let’s see if we can decrease these numbers with the help of SpeedyFox. After clicking on Optimize it started doing its thing:

What SpeedyFox does is it scans the cache databases of applications and checks to see if there are files present which could be causing slowdowns. If there are it takes care of them so that the apps don’t have to notice with them when used. After the optimization was finished, we repeated the test and we got these numbers:

Google Chrome - 9 seconds startup Firefox - 6 seconds

Conclusion

Note that we only used a stopwatch to measure these times, we didn’t perform any kind of actual benchmark tests. There are some improvements, and these aren’t caused by the apps being opened and closed already, or because they were running in tray which is what Chrome does. Both of the apps were run several times already during the first test, and then right away after optimization. You might get different results, the important thing is that SpeedyFox is free, so it doesn’t cost you anything to try and see if it really works.

Factorizator

Using Factorizator is simple. All you need to do is enter the number in the space provided. Once again, another innovative feature present in the suite, Matrix calculator would be a respite to most of the students who dread completing their Matrix questions. Let's have a look at what Matrix calculator can do for you.

As you can see in the snapshot above, we can consider two matrices at a time. The preview for identity matrix and zero matrix can be seen on the left and can accrodingly be adjusted to add/delete rows and columns. Once you add matrices to slot A and B, you can perform any operation as listed in the window above. For performing operations on a single matrix, you just need to add the matrix to a single slot.

The above snapshot captures the Matrix menu which can help you perform loads of tasks. Explore and you can perform almost anything with the matrix calculator. Suppose, we wish to add two matrices. Now we chose the option 'New Matrix' from the menu to create our own data. We created a 3×3 matrix. We clicked on 'apply' and the matrix was added to the matrices present on left panel.

Similarly, we created another 3×3 matrix and added to our matrix list. The next task was to insert the matrices in their respective slots.

Now, we will click on the required operation to display the result, in this case being 'A*B'.

Finally, this suite offers you the scientific calculator to make your calculations far easier with a number of functions as compared to the traditional calculator.
