Cute photo slideshow is a free photo to video slideshow maker program that does well on the last two words in its name. The 'cute' bit is a bit objective and will be ignored for the remainder of this review. It can very well be refuted, but that is a matter of personal opinion. The program basically takes a number of pictures, puts together a slideshow of the selected pictures and creates a movie from that slideshow. It is a pretty nifty program in theory, but this review will reveal if it stands up to the test.

Features of free photo to video slideshow maker

The feature list is pretty impressive for a program from a small company. As the program is also free to use, that makes the inclusion of few features quite pleasantly surprising. The program allows the user to include any audio file in the movie. The audio file can be played in between pictures or as background or both. The effects, or transitions, between the photos can be randomized. So far, we haven't been able to find out if there is an upper limit on the number of photos that can be included in the movie. The delay between each photo can be set as well. The lowest value is 1 and there is no threshold on the upper limit. The transition delay can be set as well. The program allows a number of choices to the user in the output format of both video and audio. The video can be in one of five modes:

Mp4: This can be played on most portable devices
Swf: ShockWave flash videos are not very popular any more, but it can be done
Flv: Flash videos are preferred for internet viewing and uploading
WMV: Windows Media video files are meant for personal computers and laptops
MOV: Quicktime movies are also meant for personal computers

Audio output can be stereo or mono. The bitrate can be selected and can range from 8000 to 44100 Hz. A higher bitrate file will take longer to create and will be larger as well.

The installer file is quite small at 4.4 MB. Downloading is hassle-free. Installation was done on an Intel Core2Duo computer running Windows 7 32-bit. The software will also run on Windows XP and Vista. Installation is quite easy and quick. It can be downloaded from its website here.

Working and Interface

This is where the company and its developers' shortcomings come through. The interface presented to the end user leaves a lot to be desired. Mistakes in spellings abound such as 'Outpur' instead of 'Output'. This shows the absence of quality control mechanisms. Working is nothing great, but it doesn't really disappoint either. Rendering is quick and easy and the files can be played back without any jerkiness.

Verdict

As a product from a small company, it is not very bad. But there are other programs available out there which do the job better. Small improvements could have been made to the program to make it much easier to judge. But Cute Photo Slideshow can do the job. Just don't expect fireworks.

RawTherapee is a free, multi platform, full-featured and very easy to understand raw image editor and batch image converter which you can use in order to manipulate and manage raw image formats so that they can be handled and edited by bitmap image editing tools. A lot of modern cameras are using raw image formats in order to preserve quality and give the user more out of the image which was taken. This type of images have to be processed with a raw image processor in order to become understandable to other image editors, that’s what RawTherapee can do for you.

RawTherapee comes with a File Browser, which you can see on the image above. By default what waits for you after you start RawTherapee will not be what you see on the image above. To get a list of images similar to the one above, you’ll have to navigate to your camera or wherever it is that images which you wish to edit are stored on your computer. On the right you can see the selection of tools available for raw image editing, which are extensive.

'Funny Photo Maker' is a program without any pretence whatsoever. Unlike many other applications where the end user does not know what exactly the program is supposed to do, this one makes its intentions very clear in the name itself. It's not meant to be a replacement for other serious photo editing applications such as Corel Draw or Photoshop, but is aimed at novice users who want to have some fun with their photos.

Features of this photo editing software

The program is quite simple to use and has a number of features. It has three modes in which the user might choose to work. These are Frames, Face Fun and Artistic. The first one takes a picture of choice from the user and puts it in one of many innovative frames. These include one of the pictures at an art gallery, a billboard at a train station, a poster and so on. These will be mostly used to edit people's faces into these various locations. As the application's name implies, this can be used to achieve amusing results. Face fun is used to edit portrait photos. For example, it can be used to show a person standing on the moon, or a person's face can be morphed onto a monkey's body. Other options include having a cat's body, being George Bush's friend, Ironman, Ghost Rider among many others. This is the most exhaustive list among the 3. Quite obviously, this can create some pretty funny effects. The last one is a slightly more serious effect, but tweaking a few of the settings can create some hilarious results. This one is called 'artistic' and provides a simple one-touch operation to edit photos to give somewhat artistically pleasing results.

Downloading and Installation

The program is quite large. It is about 36 MB in size and downloading can take a while if it is done with an onerous internet connection. Once downloaded, installation is a breeze and is over in a jiffy. For this review, the machine used was running a dual-core Intel processor and Windows 7 32-bit. The program can be run on any Windows operating system from Windows XP. The program can be downloaded from its website.

Working and Interface

The software works surprisingly well, especially considering that it is made by a small company. There are no bugs to report and it works quite smoothly. It is light on resources and also quite quick. However, these do not cover up for the fact that the interface leaves a lot to be desired. For seasoned photo editing software users, the interface is too clumsy and cluttered to be attractive. But for a more novice audience, it could work. Simplistic touches abound and first time users should have no difficulties with the application.

Verdict

Funny Photo Maker is an application that should be used by children and absolute computer novices. The effects are amusing for sure, but they also leave a lot to be desired on the functionality front. If anyone is at all serious about photo editing, they should look elsewhere, especially online editing software such as Pixlr, Sumo Paint, etc.

Using this note taking application

After you launch the application by clicking on the executable file the program starts whereby it downloads other necessary elements to start the program. You would need an internet connection while you launch the program. In order to use the program you would also need to have an account on their website which could be created from their homepage itself. After you create the username and the password for your account you need to come back to the software window and click on login from the drop down which appears by clicking on the wheel at the top left of the main window.

After you insert your login details the software connects you to your online account. Now you are ready to create your own notes save them and view them when you need them. To start with you need to type in your notes and press the enter key. You may add as many notes and tag them as per your needs.

The moment you press enter and start saving your notes it also gets updated in your online account. They are displayed as per the tags they have been saved, which makes it simpler to list down notes of a particular tag. You may visit the website and login to your accounts to have a look at all the tags and notes that have been created. It appears in a very simple manner but looks great too.

Hence having your notes saved and that too in a safe manner was never so simpler. With Fetchnotes you could save them all and you need not be an expert to retrieve or access them the moment you want. The added advantage is that your notes always remains yours and guarded from unauthorized access. Moreover you can save them from anywhere you want and access them by just logging in to your account wherever you want.

GreenFish Icon Editor Pro is a very advanced icon editor and image to icon converter which you can use if for example you want to create a website icon, the famous favicon, or if you are creating a program for which you would like to create a icon used on launchers. Program comes packed with numerous tools, and some very advanced features which are even better than on some image editors.

As you can see from the image above GreenFish Icon Editor Pro really lives up to its name, it come packed with a wide range of tool, and some might even confuse it with Photoshop. We are of course kidding, but GreenFish does have a lot of similarities with other big shots in the world of image editors, like GIMP and Paint.NET, we have:

A great way of how to start creating an icon would be by opening an existing image. Vanish Crypt is a free encryption tool which will create an encrypted virtual hard drive where you can store your files and data for safe keeping. Application does not require installation, just download, extract and then if you’re lucky run it. We’re saying if you’re lucky, because we encountered some problems when starting the application for the first time, but solutions for these bugs are easy and you’ll most likely not experience the problems that we have experienced.

Those of you who have decided to download the application, and instead of seeing the image above you received errors that various .OCX files are not available, follow this fix in order to make the program work. Follow the steps in this fix for each of the files that you receive the error for, we had to download 2, and after you do that, the program worked fine.

Free virtual hard disk encryption with Vanish Crypt

Encrypting documents and files can come in very handy in several different situations. For example you maybe have sensitive work files that need protection, or you just have nosy family members which are not taking your privacy seriously and are always going through your personal files.

Before you can start protecting your files and documents with Vanish Crypt, you have to create a virtual disk. This virtual disk will be a file that you save somewhere on your computer. You can see a virtual hard disk file already created on the image above. During the virtual drive creation you’ll be asked to create a password for drive access. There’s no password repeat option, so make sure that you enter correct password, you’ll find out soon enough if it’s wrong, because you will need it when you’re mounting the virtual drive.

Here we now have an open virtual hard disk. Disks will be opened by clicking on the Mount vDisk option which will then prompt you with the standard open file window where you can choose the created virtual disk file. The next step is to enter the password which you have created when the disk was being created. Password is a good thing, it makes this virtual disk encrypted and inaccessible to others, who do not know the password that you’ve used.

To encrypt files simply add them by clicking on the Add File and then select the documents that you wish to protect. A drawback of the program is that you cannot add several files at once, you’ll have to do it one by one, which could take time. After the files were added, they will appear in the list below, as you add new files they will all appear in the list, and you can access them the usual way, by left clicking on them.

When you’re finished adding files, make sure that you click on the Unmount vDisk option at the top menu, which will close the virtual disk file, after which the password is required to open it once again. Vanish Crypt is free, use it if you’re looking for file encryption software.

While browsing Facebook on Internet explorer, after pressing Alt plus the hotkey i.e., any numeric key, press enter to so that internet explorer gives the output of the hotkey command on Facebook.

Remember: Use the numeric keys which are located at the top of you keyboard. Don't use the numeric keys from the number pad of the keyboard as numeric keys from number pad will not work on Facebook.
