Video Frame Explorer is a handy little application from Codeplex which allows the user to make or create thumbnails of video files. In other words, this app takes random screenshots at different playback times in a video file and then combines all the thumbnails to give one single image file. This app creates 10 thumbnails for any particular video.

Features of this video thumbnails maker

This Beta 1 version of Video Frame Explorer does not come with many features. The interface is quite blunt and not much flexible when it comes to supporting various video files. According to the official Codeplex website, this app supports practically any video file including MOV, MP4 and MKV if the required codecs are available on the system. Videos having formats belonging to AVI, MP4 and MOV have been tested and it works fine. A bug which we came across while testing this app is in the output image file. There is a grammatical mistake in the word 'Resolution' which is displayed as 'Resoltion'. Also the duration of the video clip is titled 'Resoltion' which also acts as another bottleneck.

We came across another major bug while testing. Once a task is completed for a particular video file, the user needs to exit the program and restart it in order to start working on a new video file, or else, the new thumbnails are simply appended to the existing ones.

Coming to the positives, this app has the provision to display the file name, the file size, the resolution along with the duration in the output file.

How to Use video thumbnails maker

Click on 'New Thumb'.
Browse to the specific folder which contains the required video file and select it.
The program automatically extracts the best frames in the video and thus compiles an output file which is displayed in the workspace.
Click on 'Save', give it a file name along with an extension and you are done.

Pholor Express is a free digital photo editor which you can use to make changes and corrections to images, especially those created with digital cameras that don’t always turn out the way they should. Free version of Pholor comes with less features than the paid versions, but even without the advanced features of the commercial Pholor version you can still edit photos in a lot of different ways:

Modify image sharpness
Increase clarity
Dehaze photos
Change brightness, saturation, temperature, contrast
Adjust the rotation and change aspect ratio

To use Pholor Express you’re gonna need to have .NET Framework 4.0 installed on your system, a bit more powerful graphics card is also necessary with updated versions of DirectX 9, otherwise the program will report errors when started.

Default theme of the Pholor interface might be a little bit to gray for some, but don’t worry it can be changed by clicking on the Background button in the lower right corner of the application. There you can change the theme to several different colors, which should be less tiring on the eyes. ESET is a security company known for their award winning antivirus software Nod32, which has over the years transformed into full-fledged security package known as ESET Smart Security Suite. Something similar happened to a lot of other malware software out there, AdAware for example, which we tested recently. The sixth incarnation of Smart Security is being developed at the moment, and ESET has generously allowed people to download a free beta version for all those who want to try their protection suite, and also for all those who want to help out and report bugs. After the beta testing period is over, you will of course have to pay for the license.

Before you can get the default screen that you see above, you need to activate the beta, the option to do so if offered right after the installation:

Other than having the word BETA written on top of the window, and the number of days counting down at the lower right corner, you wouldn’t know that you are using the beta, because all the options of the professional version are there. Of course if you want you can pay for the license and enjoy Smart Security suite fully, even after the beta testing period.

What’s new in Smart Security 6, what kind of features it has?

Next to the standard protection from practically all malware types that are out there, some of which would be:

Keep in mind that this is beta and that after beta testing is completed, you either have to buy a license or stop using the program. Since this is beta, there are some problems, for example program crashed when we tried to restores files from the quarantine. New Email Service from Microsoft: Outlook.com

Outlook.com is a new email service started by Microsoft to replace the most popular email service in the world: Hotmail. Microsoft said that Hotmail has not been updated for quite some time. So, they launched something that is brand new, and has more networking features.

Outlook is already known as one of the most popular name in business users to access corporate emails. So, it made sense for Microsoft to use same for this new email service.

The interface and options of the Outlook.com is almost same as of Outlook client.

Actually Outlook.com is a replacement of Hotmail.com. Earlier, to manage mail with Windows Live ID, we used Hotmail.com to access mails and manage them online. But, now you can manage all your Hotmail account mails in the new Outlook.com online. Hotmail has been totally replaced by Outlook.com. Now when you try to access your Hotmail account, you will be diverted automatically to Outlook.com with all your existing mails and folders. So don't panic if you are being diverted to Outlook.com instead of Hotmail.com. Also, even though you are directed to Outlook.com, your email address still remains the same.

I truly liked this new service of Microsoft. Now, I don't need to go through the steps to configure Outlook in my Windows OS because I can access and manage Outlook with Outlook.com on my web browser.

The good or you can say the best useful part which adds up a big star to the new Outlook.com is connecting to social networks. I never thought of a way to access and manage all my emails along with gossiping with my Facebook friends. You can chat with your Facebook friends on Outlook.com along with the access to all your emails and options of Outlook. This is really an awesome feature which was working like a charm when I tested on my PC.

When you are getting bored with all official emails, then take a break and gossip with your Facebook friends. You can do that along with managing you emails, if you don't want your office work to stop.

Chatting option via Social Networks is given in the side bar located at the right side of the webpage. You just have to click the "messenger" like button at the right top of the webpage on the tool of your Outlook.com account. It will open up a side bar at the right side where you can start and continue gossip with your Facebook friends. In addition, the online service also provides you the notification of the newly added online friend, no matter your web browser is minimized or you are on some other application window. Receiving notifications may help you to keep you up-to date about all your online friends.

Moreover, you will find Windows 8 like browsing of Outlook mail, people, calendar, and of course the popular one; SkyDrive. Click on any of it to access them online. The new service of Microsoft bring you live chatting with buddies from your social network like Facebook. Check all your online friends and chat with them along with access to emails. Remember to login to Window live messenger installed on your PC. If you have not installed Windows live messenger, then install it to get started. Only after getting signed in, you can get connected to your Facebook and other social networks.

Change Color Of Outlook.com Toolbar:

Change the color of the toolbar and customize it daily to see the change. It gives 12 colors to select and makes changes.

Adjust The Reading Pane:

Unlike Hotmail, Outlook.com provides three adjustments for reading pane which include right, bottom, and none.

Access To People, Calendar, And SkyDrive In A New Way:

Outlook.com allows you to browser tabs; People, Calendar, and SkyDrive in Windows 8 app browsing way.
